Sentence

A combination of words which makes a complete sence is called a sentence.

     शब्दों का वैसा मेल जिससे पूर्ण अर्थ प्रकट हो, वाक्य कहलाता है। 

Exp- Ram has a book. Where are you going? Open the door. How lovely it is! Etc…

Parts of the sentence

Sentence के दो भाग होते है-

1 subject(उदेश्य):- The word or word about which something is said is called the subject.

   शब्द या शब्द समूह जिसके बारे में कुछ कहा जाय Subject कहलाता है। 

Exp- you are a boy. India is our motherland. This is Hari’s book. Etc…

2. Predicate(विधेय):- what is said about the subject is called the predicate.

कर्ता के विषय में जो कुछ कहा जाय उसे predicate कहते है। 

Exp- you are a boy. India is our motherland. This is Hari’s book. Etc…

Kinds of the Sentence

A.     Conventional Classification

There are five types of sentence –

(1)   Assertive sentence         (विधिसूचक वाक्य)

(2)   Interrogative sentence                 (प्रश्नसूचक वाक्य)

(3)   Imperative sentence       (आदेशात्मक वाक्य)

(4)   Optative sentence         (इच्छाबोधक वाक्य)

(5)   Exclamatory sentence            (विस्मयादिबोधक वाक्य)

(1)   Assertive sentence:- The sentence which assets something is called the Assertive sentence.

ऐसे वाक्य जो किसी कथन को व्यक्त करते है, विधिसूचक वाक्य कहलाता है। 

Exp- The sun rises in the east. The earth moves round the sun etc...

(2)   Interrogative sentence:- The sentence in which a question is asked is called the Interrogative sentence.

ऐसा वाक्य जिससे प्रश्न पूछा जाता है, प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य कहलाता है। 

Exp- What is your name? Where do you live? What class do you read in?

(3)   Imperative sentence:- The sentence which expresses a command, an order, a request or an advice is called the Imperative sentence.

जिस वाक्य से आज्ञा, आदेश, अनुरोध या सलाह का भाव प्रकट हो, उसे आदेशात्मक वाक्य कहलाता है। 

Exp- Bring a chair. Please help me. Take madicine.

(4)   Optative sentence:- The sentence which expresses curse, blessing, prayer or wish is called the Optative sentence.

जिस वाक्य से शाप, आशीर्वाद, प्रार्थना या इच्छा का भाव झलके, उसे इच्छाबोधक वाक्य कहते है। 

Exp- may he die! May you live long! May God help me! etc...

(5)   Exclamatory sentence:- the sentence which expresses some sudden or strong felling of the mind is called the Exclamatory sentence.

जिस वाक्य से मन: आवेग जैसे- हर्ष, शोक, आश्चर्य, घृणा, प्रशंसा आदि की तीव्र अभिव्यक्ति हो, उसे विस्मयादिबोधक वाक्य कहा जाता है। 

Exp- How lovely!Alas! I am ruined. How dark the night is! how disgusting!

B.     Modern Classification

There are four types of Sentence-

(1)   Statements          = (A) Positive/Affirmative     (B) Negative

(2)   Questions          = Interrogative

(3)   Commands    = Imperative

(4)   Exclamations        = (A) Optative                (B) Exclamatory

(A)  Affirmative (स्वीकारात्मक):- The sentence which asserts somethings is called the Affirmative sentence.

         वह वाक्य जिससे स्वीकारने का बोध हो, Affirmative sentence कहलाता है। 

Exp:- He is going to Darbhanga.

(B)   Negative (नकारात्मक):- The sentence which denies somethings is called the Negative sentence.

वह वाक्य जिससे नकारने का बोध हो, Negative sentence कहलाता है। 

Exp:- He is not going to Darbhanga.
